Click on “Public Resources” then “Concealed Weapons Permit” and choose “SLED Sponsored Free CWP Course”. Click on the box to register and choose either “CWP Class Schedule” or “SC Safe Carry”. Click on “Horry County” and “Conway” and click on the date to register for the classes.Â
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR CWP CLASSES– PLEASE READ
- Seven days prior to the class you will be sent an email from SLED confirming your enrollment in the class with the address of the class, instructor information, and any other pertinent information related to the class.
- If you need to cancel from the class you signed up for, please go onto the sled.sc.gov website and remove yourself from the class and pick another date.
- There IS a required shooting portion of the CWP course, and YOU WILL NEED TO BRING A HANDGUN, 25 rounds of ammunition for that handgun, ear protection, and eye protection.
- If you do not have a firearm you can rent a firearm from The Gun Store for $20.00 plus the purchase of the ammunition.  Â
- Students must have shooting experience to take this course. The student will be tested on their shooting proficiency. They will not be taught how to shoot in this class. If the student has no experience then they are highly recommended to take the Intro to Pistol class provided by TMP Firearms at the students cost.Â
- There is a written test and shooting proficiency test at the end of the course which you must pass with a 70%.
- You must have a South Carolina Driver’s License/ID or own real property in South Carolina to attend this course

SLED Sponsored Free SC Safe Carry Classes:
SC Safe Carry is an in person class that will be held at the Palmetto State Armory in Myrtle Beach.
Classes are approximately 1-2 hours in duration and there is no shooting of firearms involved. This course is centered around safe storage in a vehicle or at home, children and firearms, home defense, preventing firearms thefts, firearms basics, and reducing firearms accidents.

Brief description:
Pistol 1 & Ladies Only Pistol 1:
Prerequisite: Must have shooting experience, this is not a beginner class. This four to five-hour course covers the fundamentals of pistol shooting, extending well beyond the basics. Students will progress from basic marksmanship and skill-building to gaining confidence in their ability to accurately engage multiple targets at any distance. Participants will leave with an in-depth understanding of working from a outside the waistband holster, shooting at various distances, controlling recoil, applying aiming strategies, and executing multiple drills to develop relevant skills. Students must bring a firearm, OTB holster, magazine holder, 2-3 magazines, at least 200 rounds of ammunition.
Intro to Pistol & Ladies Only Intro to Pistol:
This is a three to four-hour introduction to pistol shooting class designed for the new or newer shooter to build confidence in their gun knowledge, safety, and skills. The students will be guided through gun safety, safe gun handling and manipulation, and shooting fundamentals focusing on accuracy. Students do not need to have a firearm to participate in this class. Gun rental is free. Students will be charged for the purchase and use of ammunition. Students will shoot between 50 to 100 rounds of ammunition during this class. Ammunition must be purchased at PSA the day of class.
Intermediate Pistol:
If you have attended the Intro to Pistol class and want further instruction—but are not quite ready for Pistol 1—this course is the perfect next step. This class will help you refine the fundamental skills learned in the Intro to Pistol class and prepare you for more advanced training. Over approximately three hours, you will continue developing your proficiency through loading and unloading drills, pistol manipulation drills, and trigger-press refinement. You will also be introduced to basic malfunction recognition and clearing techniques. Students must bring a pistol of choice with 100 rounds of ammunition, 2-3 magazines, eye and hearing protection and wear range appropriate clothing. (no open toed shoes or sandals, sleeveless shirts or open neck shirts. If you don’t have a pistol, a rental can be provided at no charge (rental-gun ammunition must be purchased at the range on the day of the class).
All courses are $85.00 each.
- Student must sign up for the above courses buy going onto the PSA Defense website to secure a seat in the classes.

Her commitment to education is evident through 8 years at the Connecticut State Police Academy, where she instructed CSP Troopers and officers in crucial skills such as Taser use, Defensive Tactics, and more.
Tina’s 4-year role as a Firearms Instructor honed the skills of CSP Troopers and municipal officers in pistol, rifle, shotgun, and low-light certification. Her 6-year tenure at the Sig Sauer Firearms Academy, where she instructed in disciplines such as Semi-automatic Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun, and Pistol Mounted Optics further demonstrates her expertise. Holding NRA Pistol Instructor, Range Safety Officer, and Pistol Permit/Concealed Weapons Permit certifications in Connecticut and South Carolina, Tina is a steadfast advocate for responsible gun ownership.
